Valentine's Day

Product DetailsRead Hugs by David Ross and then we measure our hugs by cutting a piece of adding machine tape as long as our arms stretch fingertip to fingertip. We then measure the length. We put a heart on each end and write on the long paper: This is the size of my hug: _____ inches. We fold it up and put it in an envelope so they can give someone special a "hug". They all go home and ask "would you like a hug?"  When their special person says yes, they give them the envelope.

Love Bugs: Have students create a "love bug" then write about it.  What does it look like?  What's it's name?, What does it eat?  Where does it live? etc. http://familyfun.go.com/crafts/love-bug-671735/

Roses are Pink, Your Feet Really Stink by Diane deGroat.

Somebody Loves You, Mr. Hatch  Compare Mr. Hatch from the beginning of the story to how he is at the end of the story. Then they make a Valentine for somebody special in their life.

Valentine Scrapbook:  Take a few sheets of blank paper to make a book.  Students can sort their valentine's into groups. EX. Funny Valentines, by theme, etc.  Then students tape the valentine's on the page and decorate with stickers/markers.

Heart Animals: Trace a variety of hearts and students use the hearts to design animals.  Last year I had a cow, pig, frog, and butterflies.

My Favorite Stuff Animal- Saw this idea from the Mailbox book.  Students use a heart template, and on the heart they write...A stuffed animal I will always love is.  . . Students write a description of their stuffed animal and then tell why they love it. Once they had finished their writing they illustrate a picture of their favorite stuffed animal to go with the writing.
